Skillset

It can be tough being a freelancer. For all the romanticism that surrounds the idea of working when you want, where you want, and for whom you want, the chances are that you aren’t working for the pay you need – yet. From low pay rates to disadvantageous exchange rates to finding a steady stream of work, it can be tough sledding as a freelancer, especially if you’re starting out. That’s why it is of the utmost importance that you build up experience.

That being said, there are other ways that you can increase your chances of not just getting more freelancing jobs, but becoming more profitable as a freelancer. After all, just because you’re freelancing doesn’t mean you have to work for low freelancing wages. Many freelancers can parlay experience and skills into nice windfalls, and tips such as these can help you achieve that goal.

Permanent Gigs

Uncertainty is perhaps the worst part of freelancing. You never want to be in a position where you don’t know from where this week’s pay is coming. For as much as freelancing involves working for different clients all over the globe, make sure at least one of your gigs is permanent with a client whom you trust will pay you regularly.

Promote Yourself

You’ll also want to promote yourself. Remember, hiring managers and clients typically have dozens or even hundreds of applicants for any position. Start building your resume, get good reviews, and do whatever you can to stand out.

Diversify Your Skillset

One way you can achieve both of the above tips is by diversifying your skillset. The more diverse your skillset, the higher the chance that someone will hire you, which in turn will increase your chances of securing repeat or regular gigs.

A diversified skillset can also help shield you from droughts getting specific jobs. Let’s say that you are a skilled video editor as well as a writer. Maintaining and applying for jobs with both skillsets increases the chances that at least one will pay off. If writing work dries up, you still have your video work, and vice versa.

Freelance a more lucrative way with these tips.
